What is GUSD?
Anchor of Stability
GUSD is the base USD-denominated stablecoin of the WANNA protocol and the central reserve asset of G-Series Stablecoin 2.0.
It is issued on top of an over-collateralized reserve of major dollar stablecoins (such as USDT and USDC) and is designed to function as:
the primary unit of account and settlement asset within the protocol
the collateral base for issuing G-Series stablecoins pegged to local fiat currencies (e.g., GKRW, GJPY, GTHB, GVND)
GUSD is not a retail deposit product and does not represent a bank account; it is an on-chain stablecoin used as the core infrastructure asset of the WANNA ecosystem.
1. Design Goals of GUSD
GUSD is designed with the following goals:
Stability
Maintain a tight soft-peg to 1 USD through an over-collateralized reserve structure and conservative risk management.
Liquidity
Serve as a high-liquidity USD stablecoin within the WANNA ecosystem, enabling efficient swaps between G-Series assets and facilitating FX, brokerage, and settlement.
Interoperability
Operate as a neutral base asset that can be integrated by exchanges, DeFi protocols, payment services, FX providers, and brokerage platforms.
Regulatory Compatibility
Provide a structure that can evolve over time to incorporate regulated stablecoins and off-chain assets as legal frameworks mature, without changing the core role of GUSD as the protocol’s base unit.
2. Collateral and Peg Mechanism
At launch, GUSD is backed by an over-collateralized pool of dollar stablecoins such as USDT and USDC. In simplified terms:
Users or whitelisted entities deposit dollar stablecoins into the reserve.
Against these reserves, GUSD is minted and later burned when redemptions occur.
The system is operated with a buffer above 100% collateralization, so that:
short-term price volatility
operational delays
stress scenarios do not immediately threaten redemptions or peg stability.
Over time, as regulation and market infrastructure evolve, the collateral backing of GUSD may incorporate:
tokenized RWAs (e.g., short-term government securities, repos, institutional-grade products)
regulated stablecoins or deposit-like instruments issued under local legal frameworks
provided that such assets can be held and managed under structures that preserve peg stability, legal claimability, and transparency.
3. Role of GUSD within the G-Series Architecture
GUSD is the core reserve asset for the broader G-Series Stablecoin 2.0 architecture:
G-Series stablecoins (e.g., GKRW, GJPY) are issued based on:
the GUSD reserve
FX-linked risk management parameters such as collateral ratios, buffers, and liquidity coverage indicators
In many flows, G-Series assets conceptually follow:
Local Currency ↔ G-Series ↔ GUSD ↔ USDT/USDC, with GUSD acting as the intermediate USD layer inside the protocol.
This structure allows WANNA to:
keep USD liquidity and risk management centralized at the GUSD layer
offering multi-currency exposure and settlement through each G-Series stablecoin
4. Relationship with External Stablecoins and Future Migration
GUSD is explicitly designed to leverage, not replace, existing major stablecoins:
At the base layer, USDT and USDC remain the primary collateral and redemption assets.
GUSD aggregates this liquidity into a single on-chain USD unit that the WANNA protocol can use consistently across:
FX
G-Series issuance
brokerage
payments
As regulated USD and local-currency stablecoins emerge under clearly defined laws and licenses, the protocol may:
adjust the composition of the GUSD collateral pool
introduce hybrid structures that combine:
major crypto-native stablecoins
regulated off-chain instruments held in compliant structures
The design goal is that such changes occur behind the scenes, without altering the core function of GUSD as the base stablecoin and reserve asset of the ecosystem.
5. Naming Clarification
Within this document and within the WANNA ecosystem:
“GUSD” refers exclusively to WANNA’s native GUSD, the base stablecoin of the protocol.
It does not refer to Gemini Dollar (GUSD) or any other third-party asset with the same ticker.
Any external use of the ticker “GUSD” should be interpreted strictly according to the context in which it appears.
